Project Highlights
- New plant construction – early failures of coatings caused by inexperienced applicators
- Our team selected specialized coatings to match chemistry of each containment
- Quality program insured successful installations
Project:
A design/build firm in Wichita, KS specializes in development, design and construction of ethanol facilities. Each new facility requires a storage area for both acid and caustic materials used in the manufacturing process.
After complaints from several customers about early failures in secondary containment systems, we were requested to provide design consultation and installation services.
Problem:
The originally specified product was not designed to handle the consistent movement in concrete and was cracking and delaminating as a result of routine soil movements. The installation work had been awarded to a local low bidder at each of multiple remote sites.
Solution:
Our in house materials team designed a reinforced system with moving, high-strength joint details that allowed the system to move with the concrete. We also developed a detailed Quality Control program and took over installation work, providing a long-term solution on time and on budget.
